When the C5 corvette launched it was truly next-level with a complete data network on-board. Virtually everything any track day enthusiast to enduro / club racer could want is available built in to the car, the challenge has always been accessing it, and accessing it at a sampling speed that makes it useful.

We started this project in 2020 to build an interface that would allow racers and enthusiasts a simple way to connect the C5 data network to a modern can-bus logger and data system, not knowing exactly how deep and difficult this road would be but we are enthusiasts first so after years of work and live testing in racecars and street cars we have what we believe to be the best data system that has ever existed for the C5 corvette.

In order to make it a truly plug and play solution we packaged up integrated power management so it will detect the car ECU wake and switch power to the datalogger auto-magically, and then 3 minutes after shutting the car down it will power down and go into ultra low-power mode to prevent draining the battery.

So what does this give me?
We are able to extract the following data channels from the car at up to 10hz (10 samples per second)

Data channels collected:

  • Engine RPM
  • Vehicle Speed
  • Ignition Timing advance
  • Injector duty cycle
  • Knock retard
  • Throttle input
  • Engine Throttle
  • Engine Oil Pressure
  • Engine Oil Temperature
  • Engine Coolant Temperature
  • Engine Oil Life
  • Engine fan relay status
  • Engine Intake Air Temperature
  • Engine intake MAP sensor
  • Engine Mass Airflow
  • Low oil level warning
  • Left/Right fuel level sensors
  • Aggregate fuel level
  • Brake pedal switch
  • FR/FL/RR/RL Wheel speeds
  • Brake pressure
  • Gear indicator

What does this look like in practice? It looks like getting faster and never wondering about anything going on under your hood or under your right foot

What data loggers does it support? As of right now we integrate with all modern generation AIM sports data loggers. The easiest plug and play solution is the Aim SOLO2DL but stepping up to a full AIM dash expands your capabilities. In all scenarios we support full integration with the AIM smarty-cam systems as well allowing for fully video inter-leaved race analysis.
